Why Update Your Status?
If you’re married and live outside Pakistan, you might need an updated national ID card (CNIC) for things like immigration. Updating your marital status ensures your CNIC reflects your current situation.
Can I Do This Online?
Yes! You can apply online through the NADRA website (we’ll show you the steps later). If you prefer, you can also visit a NADRA center in your home country.
What Do I Need?
Here’s what you’ll need to provide, regardless of applying online or in person:
- Your original CNIC
- Your original marriage certificate
- Your spouse’s original CNIC (unless there are special circumstances)
Applying at a NADRA Center
- Visit your nearest NADRA center and get a token to wait for your turn.
- Once called, present your documents to the officer.
- Review a printed version of your application for accuracy.
- Special Situations:
- If your spouse lives abroad, bring both your CNICs and have your husband’s mother or father present (if possible).
- If separated, you’ll need a separation certificate.
- If you lost your marriage certificate, get an affidavit form from NADRA and have it notarized.
Applying Online
- Head to the NADRA website (link to NADRA website) and create an account.
- Choose “NIC” if you live in Pakistan, or “NICOP” if you’re overseas.
- Select “Modify Data” and then “Change Marital Status.”
- Click “Apply” and follow the on-screen instructions.
How Long Does It Take?
The processing time depends on the service package you choose:
- Regular: Up to 30 days
- Urgent: 15-20 days
- Executive: 7 days
Remember, these are estimates. The actual time may vary depending on application volume.
