Lost Your Pakistani ID Card (CNIC)? Here’s How to Get a New One (2024 Guide)

Misplaced your CNIC? Don’t panic! Getting a replacement is easier than ever. This guide explains the new process for getting a new CNIC after losing your old one.

Important Update: NADRA no longer issues reprints of lost CNICs. Instead, you’ll get a brand new Smart CNIC with enhanced security features.

Who can get a replacement CNIC?

  • Pakistani citizens only
  • Must have a valid passport or another accepted ID document
  • Able to provide fingerprints and iris scan (eye scan)

What documents do you need?

  • A copy of the First Information Report (FIR) you filed for the lost CNIC (recommended, not mandatory)
  • Two recent passport-sized photos
  • Fee of Rs. 750 (subject to change)
  • Your original CNIC (if you still have it)

Here’s how to get your new CNIC:

  1. Visit a NADRA registration center. Find your nearest center on the NADRA website.
  2. Fill out the application form. Staff can assist you if needed.
  3. Get your fingerprints and iris scan taken.
  4. Pay the fee.
  5. You’ll receive a receipt with a tracking number. Use this to check the status of your application online or by calling the NADRA helpline.
  6. Once approved, you’ll receive your new Smart CNIC by mail.

Processing Time and Fees:

There are three processing options, each with a different fee:

  • Normal: Takes 31 days and costs Rs. 750
  • Urgent: Takes 23 days and costs Rs. 1500
  • Executive: Takes 7 days and costs Rs. 2500

Do I need a police report (FIR) for a replacement CNIC?

While not mandatory, filing an FIR for your lost CNIC is a good idea. It protects you in case someone misuses your old ID.

Do I need someone to come with me to NADRA?

Yes, you’ll need a blood relative to accompany you to the NADRA office for verification purposes.

Remember: Keep your new CNIC safe! Consider getting a secure holder to protect it from damage or loss.
