Canceling a Deceased Person’s ID Card

When someone passes away, it’s important to cancel their ID card (CNIC) right away. This stops anyone from using their information to do bad things. It’s like locking a door to protect their identity.

What You Need to Do

To cancel the ID card, you’ll need to get a special document called a Cancellation Certificate. Here’s what you do:

  1. Gather Your Papers: You’ll need:
    • A death certificate from the local government office.
    • A paper showing where the person is buried (graveyard certificate).
    • All the person’s old ID cards (CNIC, NICOP, POC, CRC). Don’t worry, you won’t get them back.
  2. Visit NADRA: Go to your nearest NADRA office. Bring all the papers you gathered.
  3. Submit and Wait: Give the papers to the NADRA staff. They’ll check everything and start the cancellation process.
  4. Get Your Certificate: After a while, you’ll get the Cancellation Certificate. This is proof that the ID card is no longer valid.

Important Note:

Canceling the ID card is quick and easy. It only costs about Rs50 (as of December 2023). The main reason to do it is to protect your loved one’s identity.
